That noise you’ll hear this weekend, in case you haven’t noticed the increased traffic and the occasional bewildered freshman, is the hum of students returning to school in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Welcome back, everyone. Study hard. If you’re new to F-M and looking for a way to get involved in the arts, you can find our handy list here.
A jaw-dropping lineup of writers are in town for the Four Souls Symposium tonight and all-day tomorrow at Bluestem Center for the Arts. Acclaimed author and Little Falls native Louise Erdrich, who spent a good chunk of her early career here in Fargo, will be honored this evening at 7:30. Tomorrow, you can be part of poetry and fiction writing workshops in the morning, then catch noted poet Naomi Shihab Nye, Pulitzer finalist Luis Alberto Urrea, and former U.S. Poet Laureate (and Simpsons guest star) Robert Pinsky through the afternoon. The evening rounds out with a panel discussion with all four writers. All events are free and open to the public, although the workshops require registration.
Saturday and Sunday, bring the family and get out into the fresh air for the Island Park Show, put on by Fargo Parks. You’ll find 160 juried arts and crafts vendors, music, and concessions. The event is free.
As always, you can find a big ol’ calendar of upcoming events (and add your own) at culturepulse.org.
