“Our sense of wonder is the code for tapping into our most creative selves. It enables us to expand our horizons and encounter parallel universes that haven’t been explored yet.”
The theme for CreativeMornings Fargo this month is wonder.
To dive into this theme, CreativeMornings Fargo welcomes aerospace extraordinaire Derek Rice to the stage from 8-10 a.m. Friday, June 28 at Drekker’s Brewhalla!
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Derek Rice is an experienced Aerospace Engineer, Consultant, and Astronaut Candidate within NASA’s Flight Operations Directorate. A graduate of North Dakota State University, Derek has worked and collaborated with several prominent aerospace companies and agencies around the world, including NASA, the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Chinese National Space Administration (CNSA), and Sierra Nevada Space Systems. Derek has had the unique opportunity to work with several former NASA astronauts on spacecraft design, mission and flight operations, astronaut training, flight procedure design, and the International Space Station (ISS).
ABOUT THE THEME:
Our sense of wonder is the code for tapping into our most creative selves. It enables us to expand our horizons and encounter parallel universes that haven’t been explored yet. According to the classical Greek philosopher Socrates, “Wonder is the beginning of wisdom.” By drawing us out of our typical patterns, wonderment reconnects us with our ability to marvel at new and beautiful things. We all have the capacity for wonder; but why do we lose sight of it?
As our lives get busier, we tend to streamline our schedules and relationships to become more efficient. We want to know what will happen and when it will happen. But extraordinary things occur if we make room for the unexpected. When we leave space in our plans, we create magical conditions for our imagination and thoughts to collide with one another. And it is from these sparks that our best ideas are born.
CreativeMornings Fargo takes place every last Friday of the month at Brewhalla and features a different speaker along the monthly theme. The morning is always full of free coffee from Stumbeanos, pastries from Sugarplum, a make and take, and good conversation with amazing creatives in our community. If you’d like to learn more, you can read the feature we wrote in the Fargo Forum last year when CreativeMornings Fargo started in the community!
Admission is free, but registration to the event is required. Tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. Monday, June 24 on www.creativemornings.com/cities/far. We hope to see you there!
