There’s something about the phrase “summer theatre” that conjures some of the most enticing physical deja vu; the breezy cool of an outdoor production, maybe, or the comfort of emerging from a theatre into a warm summer sunset. Opportunities for such an experience abound in the area … especially the next couple weekends. Theatre Beat. Theatre Beat offers 15 area drama students the opportunity to work directly with Theatre B cast members and visiting artists for an immersive learning experience that culminates in the production Metamorphoses, running July 12-15, July 18-22. ACT UP Theatre. ACT UP, a burgeoning theatre group focused on productions that encourage advocacy and social change, will present the musical Spring Awakening July 26 – August 4 at The Stage at Island Park before packing up the show and taking on the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival August 7-17.
