The Arts Partnership has a new face around the office for the summer! We’re pleased to introduce you all to our new summer intern, Tess Haugrud, a recent high school grad from Hawley, Minnesota.
Tess is with us full-time until August, at which point she will start college at the University of Jamestown. Her primary project this summer is to organize a board presentation meeting manual that other organizations can refer to and incorporate into their organizational structures.
Here’s a little Q and A to get to know Tess, and be sure to say hi when you see her out and about at art events!
Q: What do you most look forward to as The Arts Partnership’s summer intern?
A: I look forward to learning about different variations and forms of art by meeting with artists and others involved in the arts. I am also excited to learn more of what local artists go through from day to day (positive and challenging) in order to continue to fulfill their passion of making art. At the end of this summer internship, I would love to be able to look back to when I started and see the growth I have made through developing personal viewpoints about different forms of art and what I have learned from everyone involved in this internship with me.
Q: What is your favorite art form and why?
A: It’s hard for me to pick just one form of art as my favorite, so I will give you two!
My favorite forms of art are music and photography.
1. I love music because you can feel so many emotions by combining different sounds and pitches, which amazes me in itself. I like the dynamics of music as well. I love that music can be around us at any given moment.
2. I am huge fan of photography, too. I believe life is about the memories you make. If, at some point in life, you cannot remember memories from far into the past, looking at a photograph from a specific time can help trigger the memory and what you were feeing at that point in time.
Q: What is one fun fact about you that not many people know?
A: Although I mentioned photography in a question above, not many people know I like to photograph.
Q: What is one of your main “life goals”?
A: A life goal of mine is to contribute beyond myself as much as possible. Even though this is difficult to measure, I believe if I contribute at least one positively unexpected thing each day, I am sitting pretty well in terms of contribution to others.
Thanks for answering these questions, Tess! We’re excited to work with you this summer!
