Early in December, Choice Financial became one of several local businesses to showcase local art exhibits through our ArtWORKS program — and as a business that prides itself on putting people first, it seemed fitting for the bank to offer its clients and employees an exhibit of stunning portraits called “Parallels” by photographer Dan Koeck.
“Parallels” features 16 portraits of people, places and things that command the complete attention of the viewer. Some may be drawn in by the dazzling colors of one photograph or the stark black and whiteness of another.
What makes viewers linger, however, are the subtleties and nuances of each portrait as they note the dignity with which Koeck portrays his subjects.
In essence, each portrait provides an example of what documentary photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank said was one thing the photograph must contain: the humanity of the moment.
With Koeck’s guidance, viewers become aware of each subject. As they do so, they find themselves challenge their initial perceptions to see beyond the differences and find the similarities that make us all human.
Stop by and see Koeck’s exhibit at Choice Financial’s main branch at 4501 23rd Ave. S. until March 10.
