For several years, Folkways has gathered the community for the beloved Red River Market in downtown Fargo.
Now the organization is launching a new kind of community event series called Night Bazaars that feature local performers, food, music and art!
Inspired by the evening bazaars of southeast Asia, visitors to the Night Bazaar from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at 409 Broadway can shop for trinkets and handmade goods from local artisans and enjoy street food from food trucks and carts.
Other unique experiences at the Night Bazaar include henna tattoos, tarot card readings and pinball machines provided by Fargo Pinball. Along with live music by DJ AP, Matty J of the Human Element, Conor Lee Trio, and the Stovepipes, Betsy Pladson and fire dancers from Turn & Burn Fire Crew will also provide a mesmerizing hoop performance.
Folkways works with a range of small businesses, artists and musicians to activate urban spaces in Fargo-Moorhead, says event organizer Simone Wai.
“We are a community builders who create experiences that connect community and increase quality of life,” Wai says. “We use immersive experiences (like the Night Bazaar) to solve problems like workforce retention, economic vitality and communal belonging.”
The Night Bazaar is free and open to all ages. Mark your calendars for other Night Bazaar events on July 26, August 16, September 27, and October 25.
