The North Dakota Community Planning Group for HIV and Viral Hepatitis Prevention, Care and Treatment (NDCPG) is holding its 2nd Annual HIV Awareness Walk on September 10th, 2019 in Fargo, ND at Island Park. More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV today, but 1 in 7 of them don’t know it. There are over 450 individuals living with HIV/AIDS in North Dakota as of December 31, 2018.
One goal of the NDCPG is reduce stigma for those living with, affected by or at risk for HIV. HIV stigma and discrimination affect the emotional well-being and mental health of people living with HIV. To decrease stigma associated with HIV, the NDCPG is hosting this HIV Awareness Walk to increase awareness about HIV and provide the facts about HIV. This event also allows individuals to talk openly about HIV testing and treatment which is an opportunity to correct misconceptions and help others learn more about HIV. The walk will be about a mile walk around Island Park in downtown Fargo, ND.
