MSUM will host the 2019 Dream Alive Celebration: Moving Forward Together Tuesday, Jan. 15 beginning at 7 p.m. in the university’s Comstock Memorial Union ballroom. The Martin Luther King Day celebration is free and open to the public.
Among the evening’s events is a musical performance by St. John the Divine’s Choir located in Moorhead, and Ricot Aladin, a local Haitian artist whose music focuses on love, unity and diversity.
Civil Rights era reflections and readings will be presented by students from North Dakota State University’s Black Student Association.
“This is a great way to get students connected with their culture by actively participating in the lives of their ancestors,” said Jered Pigeon, MSUM’s director of Diversity & Inclusion.
A keynote address on “Living the Dream” will be delivered by Thomas Jefferson, a U.S. Army veteran and a State Farm local business owner. Jefferson is also chair of the FMWF Chamber of Commerce Professionals of Color committee.
