Travel rural backroads, the streets of small communities, and through farm country of the U.S. and Canada and you will find them; Barn Quilts. Barn Quilts are large, flat pieces of wood painted to look like a quilt block. They are comprised of simple geometric shapes and are painted in bright colors, in the same patterns found in handmade quilts. They hang on barns, houses, and fences and are beautiful outdoor displays of Americana Folk Art that celebrate women’s contributions to agriculture.
Join our very own Mary Jo Schmid for a good old-fashioned Barn-Quilting Bee! Learn the history of Barn Quilts, the simple techniques of painting them, and then create your own barn quilt square. Class fee includes both days and all materials.
