A Suffrage Social
June 4 at the Comstock House
Join us on Tuesday, June 4, when we gather with the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley for a centennial celebration of women’s suffrage. On June 4, 1919, the U.S. Senate passed the 19th Amendment and sent it to the states for ratification. We’re marking the occasion on the Comstock House lawn with ice cream, tea, beer, champagne, games, and house tours. HCSCC Executive Director Maureen Kelly Jonason will open the ceremony at 6:00PM with a reading of local suffragist Clara Dillon Darrow’s speech, “I Want a Vote.” LWVRRV Vice President Ashley Ladbury Hrichena will follow with a brief history of the League’s formation. MSUM sociology professor, Moorhead city councilwoman, and NEW Leadership Northern Lights coordinator Dr. Deborah White will deliver a keynote.
The event will be held on the Comstock House lawn, beginning at 6:00PM, and moved to the Hjemkomst Center in the event of bad weather. Admission is free and open to the public.
