30TH ANNUAL WOODLAND & HIGH PLAINS
POWWOW TO BE HELD AT CONCORDIA
The 30th annual celebration of the Woodlands & High Plains Traditional Powwow, sponsored by Concordia, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State), and North Dakota State University, will be held Noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, March 30, in Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn. This year’s theme is “Building Strong Foundations. Inspiring Resilient Leaders.”
This annual event is one of the most popular cultural events in the Fargo-Moorhead area with more than 3,000 spectators and 200 dancers expected. This traditional powwow is an opportunity for people from all ages and backgrounds to celebrate and recognize Native American tradition and culture, honor American Indian graduates, and provide our community with a sense of pride in the American Indian heritage.
The powwow will feature many styles of dance and drum songs from the area tribes, including Women’s Traditional Special, Potato Dance and Switch Dance. Hand Games, a Native American guessing game, will also be held during this year’s powwow.
The emcee is Mickey Hodges, member of White Earth Nation in Minnesota, and the arena director is Mike Gabbard. The Spiritual Advisor is Danny Seaboy and the Honor Guard is the Sisseton Wahpeton Kit Fox Society.
Admission for the event will be free for children five and under; $3 for children ages six to 18, and adults fifty-five and over; $5 for adults 19-54. College Students (from Concordia College, M State, MSUM and NDSU) are admitted free with a valid student ID.
