CALL FOR ARTISTS!

The Island Park Show is seeking an artist to create our first ever annual event poster. This 2-day event draws thousands of people to Island Park to explore 125 different booths featuring makers of fine arts and crafts all under the trees of one of the most iconic parks in our community. The event poster should capture the feel of the event and highlight the beautiful setting.

The poster design will be used to build excitement prior to the event through the Fargo Park District website and our social media. We would include an artist bio with the image on the event pages of our website. At the event the design would be recreated on event signage, welcome banners at the four main entry points, and merchandise for sale (tote bags, pins, buttons, posters, etc). Artist information will be prominently displayed at the merchandise sale tent. In addition, during the event we will be selling raffle tickets to benefit youth art programming through the Fargo Park District Foundation where the winning ticket will win the original artwork.

The selected artist or collaborating artists will receive a stipend for purchase of the completed artwork. The purchase will include the rights of the Fargo Park District to reproduce the piece and the ability to sell merchandise with the image.

STIPEND

The selected artist will receive a stipend of $400 plus 10% of profits from the sale of merchandise with their reproduced piece. Upon selection, half of the stipend ($200) will be awarded upon signed contract and the other half ($200) will be paid within two weeks of delivery of the artwork. The percentage of profits will be paid by 9/25/19.

DESIGN GUIDELINES & REQUIREMENTS

The dimensions of the finished product should be at least 24” wide x 32” high in portrait orientation. Larger dimensions are acceptable as long as the ratio of width to height remains the same. Reproductions will include the Island Park Show logo, the Fargo Park District logo, and the year along the bottom of the image.

REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS

  1. A brief Artist’s statement and proposal for the work you are submitting for consideration
  1. At minimum, a rough draft/sketch of your concept. The more complete the design, the better to assist the selection committee.
  2. Artist Resume (with current contact information): This should reference your formal and informal arts education and list of any exhibitions and/or commissions.
  3. One to three images of sample works of recent and/or current projects to help the panelists to determine your artistic accomplishment and promise. All sample work must be from the past 3 years. Select work samples that best represents your general work as an artist and that helps make the case for supporting the proposed project. Briefly describe the sample work you have submitted. Include title, year created and other information that will place the work in context (e.g. medium and size of work).
  1. Please include current contact information.

  • Will the design be able to be reproduced onto the selected merchandise?
  • Is the work unique and original?
  • Is the work reflective of the Island Park Show and Island Park specifically?
  • Has the artist produced other works representative of a level of high artistic quality?
