Somehow, last year flew by and now resides in our memories. Our 2018 was filled with all kinds of activities, programs and dollars to better #supportlocalart, and that includes APT, our creative incubator, which is a collaborative building in downtown Fargo with Kilbourne Group that we have occupied with individual and shared artist studios, multiple public art markets, private events with other nonprofits and our own events since December 2016.
APT studio rent is already relatively subsidized, thanks to the generosity of Kilbourne Group’s willingness to keep prices low, but for our last six months (the entire building will be vacated by June 30, 2019, so that it can go on to its next, as yet unknown, iteration), Kilbourne Group has agreed to even further drop the monthly rental rates of studios for artists. This is in an effort to serve as many artists as possible and also to activate the space to its fullest potential.
The Arts Partnership’s Christina Johnson manages the building and notes, “Our hope, with Kilbourne’s support, is to open the doors at APT even wider for a few months, letting us move to a new space with even stronger connections between participating studio artists, TAP, and the community we’re so happy to be a part of.”
From Kilbourne Group’s perspective, this increased subsidization of rent is an extension of the commitment it has held to supporting local art since its inception. “Fargo is blessed to be a strong community of artists and culture creators who amplify all that is unique about Fargo and its people,” says President Mike Allmendinger. “We appreciate The Arts Partnership for their passion and drive to take an available resource and turn it into a creative demonstration that a healthy arts presence is a vital part of our community’s infrastructure. Thank you for allowing Kilbourne Group to partner with you in creating a first home for APT.”
All in all, this is an exciting opportunity for the arts community to build a solid, albeit short-term, network while The Arts Partnership continues to explore options for the next location of artist studios. Stay tuned, and schedule a tour of the building with Christina (firstname.lastname@example.org) to see if you want to join us at APT fo the next six months, too!
